Explore and build resistance to the increasing use of psychology to coerce and compel us through moral mantras like the 'work cure' and the use of psychometric tests, mood monitoring and mindfulness.

Employment is now being positioned as a health outcome and psychological tools are being harnessed to discipline and punish welfare claimants. Work wellbeing initiatives now draw on positive psychology to monitor and govern emotions in the workplace and extract greater productivity.

This event will discuss what fighting psycho-coercion means and what forms this can take. It will encourage the questioning of the use of and the nature of these tools. Are they inherently useful but have been misused and distorted and can they be reclaimed or re-purposed?

Featuring talk and discussion from academics and activists working to question psycho-coercion. As well as a screening of Harry Giles' Everything I bought and how it made me feel. A show-and-tell about consumerism and anxiety, a project to weaponize the quantified self & an attempt to mine the nature of daily anxiety.
